This article shows you how to record maternity leave and pay in Payfit.

How to enter maternity leave
From the employee's record, click the Leaves tab.
Under the Parental leave section, from the Parental leave type drop-down, select Maternity Leave.
Click Add maternity leave.
Enter the baby's due date, otherwise known as the expected week of confinement (EWC), the type of evidence they have provided, and the date they provided the evidence.
If the employee isn't eligible for statutory maternity pay, a warning will appear.
Click Next.
Enter the first day of the employee's maternity leave, and choose how long the employee will be absent. You can choose 39 or 52 weeks or add a bespoke leave length by clicking Other.
Click Save.
To add the maternity pay, click Customise maternity pay settings.
If you started using PayFit over the last few months, we may not hold enough payment history to calculate the employee's average weekly earnings from the relevant period. In this case, you will be asked to provide the employee's monthly pay information from the relevant period so PayFit can calculate the statutory rate. Otherwise, this amount is calculated automatically.
Select the SMP calculation you'd like to use:
Daily (calendar days): Pays the daily rate for each calendar day of the month.
Daily (work days): Pays the daily rate for each working day of the month.
Weekly: Pays the number of full weeks within the month.
Pay monthly fixed amount: Enter a custom amount of SMP per month.
Click Save.
PayFit calculates the employee's maternity pay on a monthly basis and includes the payments on their payslip until they return to work. For further information about how to add occupational maternity pay (OMP), please refer to this Help Centre article.
